DVF is back – big news from New York and Europe

Diane von Furstenberg is currently making headlines with several important steps that are also exciting for us as a boutique.

The brand has regained full control of its business.

As early as the end of 2024, the fashion house announced that operations would be fully managed in-house again – previously, design, production, marketing, and sales had been in the hands of Hong Kong licensee Glamel Trading Limited since the end of 2020. This means Diane von Furstenberg has regained control of her eponymous brand from the Chinese licensee and distributor Glamel, after it had been relegated to a niche existence under their global management for four years. Since then, operational leadership has been with CEO Graziano de Boni, who is driving the realignment of product, brand strategy, and distribution.

And now DVF is also returning to European retail!

Through a new partnership with the Italian Brama Group, they will take over wholesale distribution in Europe from Autumn 2026, with a commercial presence in showrooms in Milan and Paris – with the aim of strengthening relationships with department stores and specialized boutiques in the region.

This return is deliberately not a loud PR coup, but a long-term restart: the management's goal is to consolidate presence, rebuild qualified distribution, and protect a legacy that has dressed multiple generations of women for over five decades. Fittingly, the new collection is titled "La Serenissima" – a tribute to Venice, where the brand returned this week with the new partnership with the Brama Group, reflecting the founder's special connection to Italy.

For us as a boutique, this means: We are part of a moment where DVF is reclaiming its roots – closer to the product, closer to selected retail partners, closer to its customers.

Who is Diane von Furstenberg and why is the brand so famous?

Diane von Furstenberg is more than a fashion label – she is one of the most influential designers of the last fifty years!

The Belgian-born designer founded her fashion house in 1972 and made fashion history just two years later: in 1974, she presented the knitted jersey wrap dress, which is still considered as timeless a classic as Coco Chanel's little black dress. The success was resounding – by 1976, she had sold over a million wrap dresses.

The DVF wrap dress became a symbol of female self-determination: practical, flattering for every figure, effortlessly worn from the office to the evening. This very promise – elegance that empowers women instead of restricting them – remains the core of the brand today. Prominent wearers like Michelle Obama, who wore a wrap dress for the official White House Christmas card, have further solidified this status.

Beyond clothing, Diane von Furstenberg is an iconic figure: Since 2010, she has presented the DVF Award to women with exceptional leadership, and her own story has been told in the Hulu documentary "Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge" – featuring companions such as Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton, and Gloria Steinem.

Why DVF is so relevant again right now

The combination of regained entrepreneurial control, a clear creative focus under Chief Design Officer Nathan Jenden, and the conscious, slow return to retail and wholesale makes DVF 2026 one of the most exciting comeback stories in the fashion world. For us as a boutique, it is a great pleasure to be part of this carefully curated restart and to be able to offer you the new pieces first-hand.
